Update 1/30/2016: Further updates to this extruder design will be published as part of the FuseBox 3D printer at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1047193 instead of this page.
V2 Update:
Increased tolerances for idler arm to simplify assembly
Tilted tensioner mount for more idler pressure
This is a super-simple, compact bowden extruder designed to use as little parts as possible. It is a direct-drive design, using an MK8 drive gear and a 625 idler bearing. This extruder has been designed to be highly accessible and easy to source; it uses just 2 bolt lengths and uses binder clip arms to tension the idler arm. With a sharp MK8 gear and 3 binder clips for tension, the extruder is strong enough to lift an entire spool of filament while printing (I found this out when my spool got tangled).
Currently, the extruder fits the 10mm bowden coupling included with E3D hotends. Additionally, the extruder mount works well with 15mm aluminum extrusion.
