The Space Shuttle was a system that was developed for and providing the capability of reusable vehicles for orbital space flight. The shuttle program started in the late 1950s with design and development experiments like the X-15 and X-24 program. The program with the Space Shuttle orbiter lasted from the 1980s until the 2000s and provided a capability unmatched anywhere in the world. It was a safe system with only two exceptions including the destruction of the vehicles and fatalities of the crews. The missions were widely varied including launch and orbital insertion of satellites, many experimental systems and tests, Hubble Telescope maintenance and repairs, and service and construction of the International Space Station. The system reached the goal of reducing the cost of space systems and space flight to more reasonable levels. The Space Shuttle program provided a reusable system for space flight that was historic in its implications, capabilities, and duration. The Basic LP launch version of this basic model includes the exterior of the space shuttle orbiter as well as the external tanks, and solid rocket boosters. It is fully textured and built near to scale. This model includes the aerodynamic surface model of the spacecraft, tank, and boosters. It does not include landing gear or aerodynamic control surfaces. This model is provided here in 10 different formats.
