A modular and easy to assemble Stevenson Screen enclosure for developing all sorts of weather, garden monitoring, and irrigation stations. The interior can easily accomodate 2 half-sized breadboards inside for developing prototypes, or any simillarly sized PCB, and is easily scalable for bigger or smaller projects.
A Stevenson Screen is a kind of enclosure intended to house outdoor sensors, as it protects them from the elements and direct sunlight, while allowing ample airflow for proper atmospheric measurements. This particular version is intended to include a solar panel at the top, so as to be fully autonomous and self-contained. For my application, which is inside a greenhouse, I just used a solid top and added an externaly mounted solar paner.
I developed this station with the intention of having a hghly modular system which was reasonably compact and resource-efficient, as most stevenson screens I have seen are very plastic-hungry designs. Thus, my design is highly optimized to be printed without support and with only the required ammount of material. The whole build requires around 400gr of plastic.
I begun developing this design after being inspired by cyclemadkiwi's original version (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3615016), which looked quite elegant, but seemed excessively robust (plastic-hungry), and I wanted to implement a better working plastic nut and screw system (the threads on the original are just too small). Overall, I ended up refining this version quite a bit with the intention of just achieving a pleasant and reliable build experience for me and anyone who wishes to replicate it.
