Stardalur is one of the first climbing areas in Iceland. The oldest routes are since 1978, new ones are still being added and recently Stardalur broke the 100 route barrier. Stardalur was the most popular climbing area in Iceland until Hnappavellir were discovered in the 90’s.
Stardalur is exclusively for traditional climbing with cams & nuts (not pitons). As of 2020 there are no bolts in Stardalur, not even top anchors.
In Leikhúsið (The Theater) you can find a few of the hardest trad routes in Iceland, like #D9 Ópera 5.11a, #D10 Aría 5.11a, #D10.1 Vikivaki 5.11c, #D10.2 Kitlaðu mig bleikan 5.11a & #D11 Svartidauði 5.10d.
