When the Federation began growing, so too did the need to transport goods from one member to the next. Ships of the line were too expensive for this task and member planets alone couldn't (or sometimes, wouldn't) bear the cost of private shipping. Instead, Starfleet set up an own Transport Command to facilitate the transport of large volumes of goods and personnel, reasoning that small, easy to produce ships could be the answer to this problem. In the end, the contracted Antares spaceframe was ideal because of the sheer modularity of it, and the possibility to outfit it with a simple artificial intelligence so that no crew was even needed. This led to the frame being used for both manned and automated use, resulting in a slightly different silhouette, yet comparable performance. - INSTRUCTIONS - -This model contains the main body and both the manned and drone versions of the ship. To effectively use this model, please enable the Layer function. Layer 0 is the body, whereas Layer 1 is the unmanned Drone ship NCC-D234 and Layer 2 is the manned USS Maia. -As always, if you use the model, creditation is required.
