I love my SPOT GPS Satellite messenger. It's a tough little beast. In my case it's been dropped from high speed moving vehicles (twice), stored in the rain, dropped into creeks, overheated to the point I couldn't hold it (on the car dashboard), and generally knocked about on the outside of my backpack for 3 years.
Anyway - time for some additional protection.
This design provides a cover with 2 attachment points. The SPOT is fixed in place with cable ties and the cover provides holes to run these through. The cover shouldn't restrict it's wireless signal, however it might might it bit harder to remove the covers on the emergency call buttons.
This one is made out of glow in the dark ABS.
The design was done in OpenSCAD and I tried to estimate the SPOT outline by trial and error (a 3D scan would have been better). Note that this is for a SPOT Gen 2. It won't fit the original Gen 1 or the newer Gen 3. There are two holes to attach the cover to your backpack for extra security. Some parts of the shell sides are a bit thin, and the floor really needs to be another 0.5mm thicker. So some improvements could still be made.
