Spiral Stair

I designed this staircase to be built around a cedar column in the center of a client's house. The treads are douglas fir mortised into the cedar log. When each mortise was finished, I screwed a 1/2' lag bolt into the back of the mortise, and drilled a 1' hole into the end of the tread, so that the lag screw head projected about 2' beyond the face of the cedar log. I then drilled a 1/2' hole in the top of the thread to intersect the lag bolt clearance hole, sealed the edges of the joint with putty, and filled the space around the lag bolt with epoxy. The mortises themselves are not modelled, as I only needed the drawing for layout purposes.
