Speedy Red Midi Wing by wersy

For all friends of flying planks I designed a special version sized between the
Speedy Red Mini Wing https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1117576 and the
Red Duck https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:407766
Moreover I used a different airfoil. It now comes with a wingspan of 1000 mm and the total weight is 870 grams.
Like in the “Mini Wing”, carbon rods (8mm now) pass all the way through, providing extraordinary
stability. These rods are so stiff and fit in so tightly, you don’t need to glue anything.
This makes changing a part very easy, in case it is broken or you want it in another color.
I havn’t had a chance myself to maiden it yet. But Dave already got it airborne. Watch

Recommended Print Settings
Attention
The wings are designed to print using 0.5 mm width, 0.3 mm height, 3 bottom and 3 top
layers, but one perimeter only.
Should you print thinner walls, the perimeter of the upper side will not stick well enough
to the perimeter of the inner stiffening construction.
If you apply thicker walls, the perimeters will not come out continuously in one
uninterrupted turn.
The layers must build up as if you were printing in spiral vase mode. Only then you get a
smooth surface on the upper side.
If unsatisfied with the results, try out 0.49 or 0.48 width in your slices settings. It
depends whether you use Cura, Slic3r, S3D or what yo have. I suggest you experiment with
some tests before printing the whole thing.
The second point is: Should you print lesser layer heights, the inner stiffening
construction will not connect well to the top and bottom layers. You will suffer a gap in
between.
All wing parts: layer height =0,3mm, width =0.5 mm

wing servo: 3 bottom layers, 3 top layers, hollow
elevon 170: 7 (!) bottom layers, spiral vase mode
elevon 167: 3 bottom layers, spiral vase mode

fuselage front: 3 perimeters, 7 bottom layers, 3 top layers, 80% infill
fuselage middle: 2 perimeters, 1 bottom layer, 1 top layer, hollow
fuselage back: 2 perimeters, 3 bottom layers, 3 top layers, 40% infill
fuselage interface: 2 perimeters, width =0.4mm, no bottom/top layer, hollow
fin: 5 bottom layers, layer height =0,3mm, width =0.5mm, spiral vase mode
fin cap: 2 perimeters, 3 bottom layers, 3 top layers, layer height =0.2mm, width =0.4mm,
30% infill

"spacerunner59" asked me for a version to be able to screw on the wing instead of fixing it with rubber bands.

As a solution there are now fuselage parts with holes to screw on. Furthermore the fuselage parts can be put into each other, so that the connecting parts are no longer needed.
The middle wing section consists of 3 parts.
The part in the middle has a wall thickness of 0.8 mm.
Print Settings
perimeter_extrusion_width = 0.4
layer_height = 0.2
perimeters = 1
bottom_solid_layers = 3
top_solid_layers = 3
fill angle = 0° (right angled to the part otherwise the solid top layer around the opening will fall down)
The two parts on the side are 73 mm wide each and are printed in the same way as the other wing parts.

This part has already a socket joint so you don't need the interface part for glueing.

I have uploaded bushing_for_M3.stl.
This is a simple solid cylinder.
Depending on the inner diameter of your pipes you might have to scale it in the slicer.
The cylinder must be printed hollow, with only 2 or 3 perimeters.
Then you have to re-cut the bushing with a tap.
