A study in converting a porch roof into a greener structure. The current roof is a solid asphalt shingled addition. My plan is to segment it into sections. There will be solar panels, hopefully composed of semi-transparent cells, with clear PVC covered slatted segments. These slats will be angled to where in June and August (The heat of summer) little direct sunlight comes through. In Midwinter the sun's lower angle would shine through allowing solar gain. This model is incomplete. It only has a rough in support structure, no flashing from the wall and nothing to enclose the space above the solar panels. Try it with shadows, Start with June 21st and go month by month to December 21st to see how the shadow and light opens and closes through the year on the patio and the attached wall.
