This is a Soap Box Derby racer constructed and driven by Hoyle A. Watts who participated in the Chattanooga, TN local race in 1947. Hoyle ran as a class B entry, competing in heat 7 against two other local boys. He competed a year later also in Chattanooga, this time as a class A. Hoyle's car was e familiar design on the race circuit, standard with many car builders that followed a teardrop plan with plywood panels fashioned from thin plywood or sheet metal affixed to bulkheads. Not common were the axles, which on Hoyle's car ran underneath the floorboard. By 1947 most cars had them run through the car body. The interior was upholstered and fitted with a cushioned seat. This model is created from recent and historic photos showing the extant car from various angles. The model has livery of how the car looked when it raced in 1947, with race number 187.
