Smilodon californicus, a.k.a. saberthootcat, is not family of cats or tigers. That's weird, 'cause he is mostly called saberthoot cat or tiger. He lived between 3 million to 10,000 years ago in North and South America. The first fossil of him was found in 1842 by mr Lund. After that found more and more fossils of smilodon were found, so we know a lot of him. The name 'smilodon' means: smil 'smilē :)' Knife, odon 'odon' thoot, knife thoot.
