The C1 class was the first units introduced in the Stockholm metro (Tunnelbanan). The car bodies were manufactured in Sweden by ASJ. Traction motors and signalling equipment was designed by Westinghouse. 20 units were manufactured between 1949-1950. The C1 class featured longitudinal seating arrangement. This proved to be unpopular, so for the succeeding C2 class, the interior was changed to transverse seating. 305 C2 units was constructed between 1949-1957. 85 C3 trailers was constructed between 1957-1959, and an additional 40 C2 units were constructed between 1959-1961.
