After much trial and error I finally have a silencer that is better at suppressing then my Silencer 9.2! Designed for .22 lr guns with a .5''-28 thread.
This design takes advantage of 3D printers to produce intricate designs. Unlike the Silencer 9.2 which is just some rounded baffles, this design is complex series of baffles, sieve holes, muffler walls and pachinko pegs. It has an aperture of 8 mm ensuring bullets don't nick the baffles as happens sometimes with the 9.2 if it is not screwed on perfectly straight. Slightly shorter than the 9.2 with the same diameter, slightly higher weight as well.
Sound suppression was tested with a SW Victory with a Ridge-Lite threaded barrel. A Cellphone mic placed <200 yards away through snowy woods was used to record the sound profile. Aguila .22 Super Extra 40 grain ammo was used. Three replicate sound profiles were taken in batches of two (six profiles in total) Comparing unsuppressed, silencer 9.2 and silencer 16. Unsuppressed was and average of 48.58 db, 50.5 db Max. Silencer 9.2 was 36.48 db Ave and 39 db Max, Silencer 16 was 35.75 db Ave and 38 db Max.
Silencer 16.2 improves performance, blocking vent holes improved sound suppression, so vent holes removed in the model, as well as added sound absorbing teeth. Achieved up to 100% sound reduction on version 16.0, or up to 3 db sound reduction. So when I tested unsuppressed and got an average of 56.5 db, I got 43.2 db with 16.0 and 40.2 db with version 16.2.
Over 50 rounds have been shot through this design without it blowing apart or suffering any more damage than carbon-lead soot build up and searing of the baffles. Obviously a plastic suppressor can't be cleaned and is to be thrown away once worn out. PLA plastic is what this was built with, which is biodegradable.
