The Galileo (NCC-1701/7) was one of several Class F short range shuttlecraft assigned to the original Federation Starship USS Enterprise NCC-1701 during the 2260’s. Due to the shuttle’s limited fuel capacity, they were only suitable for travel within solar systems or for transport between deep space vessels and planetary surfaces. In 2267, during a mission to investigate a quasar-like phenomena called Murasaki 312, the original Galileo 7 shuttlecraft was destroyed. The Galileo Shuttlecraft made its first appearance halfway through Season One of Star Trek – The Original Series (TOS), in the episode appropriately entitled “The Galileo Seven” – which was originally broadcast on January 5, 1967. It’s interior design was created by the celebrated Star Trek Original Series Art Director and Production Designer Matt Jefferies; while it’s exterior appearance was actually created by Gene Winfield, a well known custom car builder and primarily automotive designer. The model depicted here is of the original Galileo shuttle as it appeared in the TOS episode “The Galileo 7”. It is primarily based on blueprints drawn by Phil Broad, as well as various photos and screen captures available on the internet. It features the original paint scheme of gloss white upper surfaces and battleship gray lower surfaces.
