For the truncated octahedron project, I decided to create my piece of the group project based off of Saturn. To start, I created a sketch of a square in Fusion 360, which was then extruded symmetrically. The square was then tapered at -35.265 degrees. A plane was made through the shape where a split created a flat, square top. A circular pattern was then applied to made the octahedron. From here, three circles were sketched on the square face of the shape and extruded outwards to created cylinders, which were then joined together to make one body. The octahedron body was deleted and a sphere was put in its place. The cylinders were then cut from the sphere creating three holes. The ring of Saturn was created by utlizing the circle and extrusion tools. The inner edge of the ring was filleted, while the outer edge was chamfered. The pattern on the ring was created using the spline and extrusion tool. Finally, supports were added in order to keep the ring attached to the sphere. An STL file was uploaded to Cura and Saturn was printed on the Ultimaker 2.
