1. Closing Mechanism
-Lock System Type: Push/Pull Snap Lock Mechanism
-Benefit: Quick and easy lock and release system design for storm, one pull lock.
-Open Procedure: To open push the knob handle upper until the snapping legs are disengage.
-Close Procedure: To close pull the knob handle downward until the snapping legs are snap and engage back on the inside plate.
2. Seal
-Weatherproof: There is a 0.84" high incline nylon surface plate designs for collecting water to run off and away from the open vent. This incline nylon surface plate also protects the surface of the yacht from being damage.
-No direct access: The seal cover prevents direct access of water into the cabin. Meaning water will have to flow under the seal cover and fill up the 0.84" high incline nylon surface plate in order for it to access the vent leading to the cabin.
-Air and waterproof: There is a top and bottom o-rings design groove specific for air compression.
-Splashes proof: In addition to the "No direct access,” the vent cover has eight drain tunnels that help prevent any collecting water from power wash.
3. Vent Cover
-Specification: The vent cover can withstand a max. force of 700lb with 0.088" deformation and an avg. force of 300lb with 0.055" deformation. (See analysis pictures).
4. Manufacturable
-Pro: Easy assemble | Parts are manufacturable | Mass production is cost effective
-Con: A few parts to assemble | Some parts may have medium complication manufacturing | Single to few production is expensive
4. Installation
-Installation: Installation requires nothing more than two size Phillip or flathead screwdrivers.
5. Air Flow
-Air flow: The maximum airflow is limited by the wind speed, outside temperature and pressure. What does this mean? This mean that this system is not a steady airflow system; there is nothing to control the air velocity coming in. The only control system is a slide mechanism inside the cabin that helps limit the amount of air entering.
6. Dimensions
-Dimensions: Reference from Vetus vent, screws and springs design are reference from McMaster Carr
7. Design
-Design: A similar classical look to the Vetus vent.
8. Soft Requirement
-Materials: Nylon seals, aluminum (or stainless steel) plates and screws, rubber o-rings and knob handle
*Note that test analysis is done using aluminum 6061 T6
