UPDATED 11/2016!
I've changed the light hood so that it looks like the front cockpit console. Painting the console: The console is a dark grey in the reference pics I have and the rectangles on top are outlined in silver. There are additional silver outlines and details as shown in this screengrab: http://catacombs.space1999.net/main/images/spacehd/tfc/sptfc0021.jpg
I've also deepened the wiring channel on the back and increased the LED hole diameter to 6mm to accommodate various LED packages..

If you' just got a 22-inch Eagle Transporter from Round 2, you may decide you want to lit the cockpit interior. I know I do! But I also don't want to go through blacking out the interior and gluing LEDs in place. So I built an insert that can hold two or three 5MM LEDs and direct the light forward without bleeding through the nose, so to speak.
There's also a baffle to further direct the light. Glue or solvent weld it to the front of the insert. You can glue a diffuser on it if your LEDs are too bright. See pics for how it goes together. A little hot glue or other thick adhesive to hold it in place and you're all set.
5MM LEDs can be inserted from the back and there are channels to route the wiring back towards the cockpit door. Fill the rear of each hole with putty to block any light leaking from the rear. The rest is up to you.
What's that center hole for?
I also put a hole in the middle for a third LED, either for more illumination, a different color or perhaps a color-changing LED.
