A supersized Root2cnc.
I wanted to build the Root2.1 with a work area of 1200 x 1200 and judging by comments on Facebook, there would be issues with flex of the 25x25mm side rails so I redrew the parts for 40x40mm X and Y rails.
I am using steel square tube for the rails.
Printed in PETG everything fitted together well.
Note I have not included any holes in the Z axis backing plate as there seems to be a huge variation in Z axis layouts.
.
All other parts lot listed here are as per the original Root2.1
Edit: Added Y Gantry motion link.
18 May, 2017. Replaced the dxf files for the wood parts with stl's as the dxf's were not reproducing well in freecad. I also added a stl for the x axis rear panel. (Note: they are labelled Z carraige).
2 June, 2017. Added 8mm spacers for the Y gantry nema23, Y gantry motion link 8mm spacer and Y gantry bearing 8mm spacers. These are to move the pulleys out 8mm so they line up with the Y axis bar mounts better. I also added a couple of photo's of the build so far. For the drive shaft between the left and right Y motors, I used some 20mm allow machine bar, (because that's what I had laying around), and drilled each end to insert 8mm steel stub axles fastened with grub screws. This is to reduce the possibility of torsional "wind up" if you where to use 8mm steel across the entire width of the machine.
9 June, 2017. Added a dxf drawing for the front Z axis plate with holes for the linear guides. The holes are 25mm apart and the two rows are 100mm apart.
EDIT: dxf file was not showing all the holes, use the stl instead.
12 December, 2017. Added a few more photos. I have taken it off the "Work in progress" status because I am happy with the machine as it stands.
I only have a dremel mounted as a spindle at the moment so routing aluminium is SSSLLLOOOWWW but it does do it.
I intend to set up the plasma cutter in the next few weeks.
