Rockdale City Bombardier LM-300 series Subway Car

In Summer 1980, these Swiss-built railcars were Rockdale City Subway's answer to a newer generation car. Originally designed as a prototype/concept fleet for ROCTA's next-generation testing program. These cars are actually the first considered 'next Generation equipment' with the LM 250's, LM250K's and, LM270's being the last all manual generation subway cars. With these cars featuring one of the first computerized announcement systems as well, the first to run a driverless testing project. The project was aborted in 1983 proving to be highly dangerous as well as fatal after an explosive accident June 9, 1982 which killed 3 assistant train crew members. Following that incident was one in the late fall 1982 after a Four car train Jumped the tracks at an ungoverned speed derailing along The S4's Bruykton-Sawview Line at a 20 mph curve (used since the late 1870's by B&O/RSI&C railways) and bursting in flames. Thes incidents later proved to dangerous for the system at the time. After some alteration to the fleet's operations, they first entered service along the S4 subway line followed by the S8, and the S13 in late June of 1980. They paved way for the 'Next Generation Equipment' such as the LM400, LM500, LM600, the recently debuted LM650's and The soon to come LM700's/LM750's in 2020.
