The new injection molded Z II is finally here ,after 2 1/2 years of tweaking this beast she is finally making an appearance. She has the wing area of the older Z 60 in a 54 WS ,770 SQ inches of wing area makes her a monster little wing. She now will launch and land much easier than the past versions.
The goal was to address the troubled low speed launch and landing issues without compromising the other end of the spectrum.
I have listened for the last few years to all the Zeph owners.
Zeph is designed as a performance workhorse for FPV UAV and AP. Here is the FPV Labs link http://fpvlab.com/forums/showthread.php?1966-New-molded-Ritewing-Zephyr-II
Here is the Rcgroups link http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1525711Zephs have also been used for nite flying and sport flying, why not it flys great! The Z II has a new streamlined center section to house even more gear, and as an option the new cnc laser cut Go Pro Camera box can be easily integrared into the blunt setion with ease. The wings are molded to fit standard size servos and up two 4s 4000 mah,I have seen some 5s packs fit and some brands of 5000 mah too, 2x 4s 3300 in parallel seem to be the norm. The new Ritewing foam type has a little less durability than the previous EPP ,but the build can be done without the super involved build process that was required with the weave over EPP. After watching some crashes and bashes with the new foam its already showing the foam does take some good abuse and still retains nice durability characteristics.
EPP is a durable flimsy foam and needs the sparring to be done rite and the weave and lam to make it stiff.
We are having the new foam Z II mfg a little higher density than the EPP, this makes for a nice rigid and durable foam.
This new Foam is much more stiff and smooth, this will allow you to build lighter and more rigid and with a much nicer easy finish surface. The ZII launches easier ,so it now doesn't need survive a bunch of rough launches.
Landing speeds will be 1/2 of what they were on the EPP versions, so not as much damages when landing hot now, plus your approaches and launches can be in much tighter areas. With the pre cut bays you will have a much easier time building now appx 1/3 the time as before. ZII spec :CG at 9''3/8 to 9'1/2
