In order to increase the number of steel fragments and the reflectivity of the grenade inside the case, along the walls, it is laid with a thin tape facing four to six layers with notches for the formation of fragments. A handle is attached to the upper cover of the housing, which is screwed in the fuse (before the fuse is screwed in, the flange is closed with a plastic plug). With RG-42 grenades, fuseof the 1941 model of the UZRG, UZRGM (adopted in 1954 along with the RGD-5) or UZRGM-2 are usually used. The fragments spread radius is 25 meters, the ejection range depends on the physical number of the soldier and averages 35-40 meters. The combat grenade is painted green (from khaki to dark green).
