Respirator designed to be made from things that you can find at home.

bike tube -seal
vacuum bag -filter
PETG -body

... and some tape

The inventive part of this design is the bike tube seal. It is made using accessible material and it adjusts to the shape of face easily. Large filtration area allows for use of vacuum bag as filter.

Seal works great for me and friends i tested it on. Its not for kids !
Breathing is not perfect. I did some very light biking and it was ok. When i tried to move furniture in it, it got wet and i couldnt breathe through anymore. I believe that it is as good as you can get with vacuum bags. You can use different filtration material such as medical mask, and that is a whole different story. Good breathability and seal.

DISCLAIMER

This is uncertified, untested design. If you have certified protection available use that instead.
Use this design on your own risk.
After 5+ hours wear, tube causes skin irritation.

PETG parts

BODY

You can choose

UNIBODY is made in one go.
+solid

WITHmesh + mesh is done in two prints.
+less surface for breath condensation
-adds funny vibration to your voice /may be a + for some :) /

They were ment to be printed without any support. Howether sometimes they break off so i would advice to use a BRIM /not for mesh/

CAP

you can choose again

both caps are interchangeable, one is slightly more cool :)
printed without support of any kind.
You might ask what is the shield thingy at the bottom. It is there besause my feeder got fillament all curly when printing separate fine mesh lines.

CLIP 2X

you can print with other parts

BIKE TUBE parts

One mountain bike tube should be sufficient for two masks.
Wash it well before use.

First, inner piece of tube is made into a loop roboros style. one end is put into another about 2cm deep. You can put this piece into the slot easily. Place the intersection in the bottom middle. it is roughly 38cm long, but have some reserve.

Second piece is roughly 36 cm long. It is to be inserted in a U profile, and you will need a blunt tool to insert it into the slot, secuting first piece. I used swiss army knife flat screwdriver. Be gentle. Start at the bottom part at the intersection and work your way around, shorten your tube to just touch the intersection. Now secure the intersecion with extra piece 1 layer U.
this way 6 layers of rubber will be present everywhere.

DV mask /black/ on pictures uses 4.5cm wide tubes
TRI mask /grey/ on pictures uses 3.2 cm inner and 4.5cm outer U

This is what i came up with, feel free to experiment.
i tried 3 loops, 1 loop and gluegun, 1U loop, sky is the limit.
you may try cutting parts of tubes out for fitting purposes.
Experiment, remix, thats why im putting it here :)

Head loop is made from 60cm piece but you can make up to 4 from it.
clips accept 1.2cm wide stripes. I made mine double in the middle so it sits better at the back of my head. It does, but sometimes it tears, so i use it as a single most of the time. Tearing can be prevented by looping thin stripe of ductape around division point. Tried making round holes at division ends but it teared anyway. Single stripe will work fine too.

VACUUM BAG parts

put the mask boty on the vacuum bag and use pencil to capture the shape. Then cut 2-3 mm smaller piece. Put it on your mask. Fasten it by two tiny pieces of tape. Tape it about 2-3mm over filter and onto the mask. I cut my paper tape longitunally to three 12mm wide stripes, use one on both bottom eges, and two for each top side edge. All edges should be taped over for good seal. it takes about 5 minutes once you get the hang of it.
Now you can cover it and you re good to go.

You can use other filtration materials

But always seal them with tape, cover is not designed to fasten the filter material.

Hope this Helps, dont hesitate to remix it or use the idea on whole new designs. Thats the purpose of this post. I liked the thought because we should not forget about our planet even in the middle of a crisis. And you can recycle old tubes in this design.
Let me know what you think.
