There were limited stocks of RC boats so I decide to build one for my son using the Dremel 3D45 printer. I suggested a speedboat but he wanted to go for a ferry so basically this looks like a ferry but I put a huge motor in it to go as fast as a speedboat.
Steps in the build:
Printing Parts:
All parts were printed on medium setting using white EcoABS standard material. Supports are required to print most of the parts and the average printing time for the larger parts are about 26 hours. It's not the most efficient design for material use so I think I used about 2 spools.
3D Printed Parts Assembly and Painting:
Parts were glued together using SCIGRIP 16 Acrylic Cement. Apply cement to both side then press together for 20 seconds, just used feel to line up parts.
Parts were then painted with 3 coats of Rust-Oleum 260510 Automotive 2-in-1 Filler & Sandable Primer and then sanded with 1000 grit wet &dry. Finally they were coated with Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover.
Transparent sheets were cut and glued inside for the windows and sealed with silicone again.
For the fasteners, heat inserted Threaded Insert Embedment Nuts were used with sizes being M3 or M4 in the model.
Assembly:
For the propeller and shaft a Fielect Drive Shaft w Propeller and Universal Joint for RC Boat, L130mm Shaft, L80mm Sleeve, D36mm Propeller, Fit for 3mm Motor Shaft was used. It was fixed using silicone marine grade sealant.
The rudders were a uxcell RC Boat Rudder with L Shape Servo Arm, Rudder Pad Thickness 4.4mm was used and again fixed in place with silicone marine grade sealant.
All the electronic components were from Traxxas, the following were used:
Traxxas 2075 Digital High-Torque Waterproof Servo TRA2075
Traxxas 550 Titan 12-Turn Motor TRA3785 1
Traxxas 5800mAh 7.4V 2S 2-Cell LiPo Battery w/iD Connector TRA2843X
Traxxas TQi 2-Channel Radio with TSM Receiver TRA6509R
Traxxas XL-2.5 Waterproof Electronic Speed Control ESC TRA3024R
All can be fixed in place using the printed brackets and pictures.
Finally a uxcell Foam Rubber Seal Weather Strip 3mm Diameter was glued in the channel to provide water sealing.
Since the battrey is on one side some weights need to be placed on the other side for stability apart from that it's goes extremely fast and works great.
I got most parts on amazon so can add the links if anybody requests them in the comments.
