Updated on 14th October 2018 - fiddler crab edition
Changes since last release:
the left blower is now much, much bigger than before to improve cooling on the back side of the print.
mount hole for the screw moved by -0,5mm in X and Z direction - now the fan duct fits absolutely perfect and level (before it was tilted by 2-3 degrees)
added a small wall at the inlet where the fan sits for easier alignment and avoiding air to exit there
some minor design flaws fixed in the CAD model
If you use an older version, it's worth upgrading because the print quality on the back of the print improves significantly
Happy printing!
Updated on 8th April 2018 - final edition
Changes since last release:
the whole body is 1,5mm lower which gives you 1,5mm more clearance towards the parts you're printing
the angle of the outlets were changed a little in order to optimise the airflow - now it should be perfect everyone, especially when you're using a silicone sock on your heatblock (which I can highly recommend)
on the top surface and on the left side of the inlet some small notches were added to ensure the optimal fit of the fan duct for the stock blower which have some "noses" standing. These may lead to some warping of the fan duct if you tighten the mount screw too much. This should be better/fixed now.
Updated on 22nd December 2017 - XMAS edition
Changes since last release:
1mm more clearance on the left side, beause the outlets were not 100% perfectly centered
additional clearance towards PINDA Sensor to avoid deformation (the last version was still touching the PINDA holder on my printer)
extension of the block on the right side, where the "hook" snaps in to hold the right side of the fan duct - means a better stability overall
the front side cooling opening is now much wider to allow more air to cool from the front side including adaption of the "air distribution peak" inside the fan duct
added "i3 MK2s" letters on the front side to clearly show for what model it is meant
Enjoy!
Updated on 8th November 2017
Changes since initial release:
more clearance towards PINDA-sensor to prevent deformation of fan duct when getting warm/hot
bigger slot for front-side cooling
redesign of some critical parts in Fusion to avoid slicing errors in some slicers
====================================================================
The original design comes from R0b0Genius who provided this fan duct. Unfortunately, requests from other users to publish the source files of the design in an editable format were ignored by him/her. So I designed it myself newly from scratch - and also added the following improvements to the fan duct:
1) The inner guide plates have been removed
2) Added 5mm additional distance on each side to avoid excessive melting of the outlets
3) Changed the "air distribution peak" (directly below the fan) from a two-side distribution to a three-side-distribution and added a small slot on the front side that the air is able to cool the part from three sides
4) The screw should hinder less less air from passing than before
I already made a few prints and they came all out beautiful. I also added my source design which has been made in Fusion 360. Please feel free to change/adapt the design according to your needs, but if you remix it you're obligated to publish the source file also. The community should get the best fan duct possible and I'm grateful if there's someone out who is able to improve this design!
Important remark: PRINT IN ABS - all other materials will melt at the outlet
