Project Statement
The Projector desk eases learning at home. With a phone holder with an adjustable height, the user of the Projector desk can show students or peers something on his or her desk, just like a projector would in a in person class, while on Zoom, Google Meets, or another online method. In addition there are convenient slots to put pencils, earasers, or another small school supplies in on the side. On the other side, there is an elevated table. Underneath it, papers, notebooks, or other larger items can be stored. More "layers" of tables can be stacked, to either increase the height of the table or add more storage. Ultimately, the Projector desk makes distance learning more convenient and more familiar.
While working on the projector desk, I ran into one major design issue. One of these was coming up with a mechanism that would allow the projector(phone holder) to adjust its height. At first I thought of using threads on the projector pole, but threads have questionable strength when printed out of PLA, especially if they are thin. Therefore I found a mechanism that would be able to be printed and be strong enough to withhold the phone holder.
2.If I could redesign this, I would add some cut outs to reduce the amount of material to be used. Therefore, the product would be more cost-effective and have the potential to have a shorter print time.
3.3D printing would strengthen my design, because it would make it light weight and cost efficient. The light plastic material, like PLA and other filaments, are both lighter and less expensive than other strong materials. This is important, because it would make my design more portable, more user friendly, and more accessible.
