The red brick Melfort Power House was built in 1912-1913 and began operating in October 1913. The original engine generated 23,000 volts, and a second one was added later. It was sold to Canadian Power Utilities in 1929, and the equipment dismantled by Sask Power in the early 1950’s. The museum acquired it in 1973, and it is the base of our operations. The main floor has office space, washrooms, a kitchen/Board room, a gallery/display area, and an unheated storage area. The upper level houses artifacts not currently on display, props, files, our archives, limited storage, and some work space. Hand-painted murals will soon decorate the outside west wall where the windows once were.
