This is Educational Kit which is sold at Jameco Electronics website!

Specifications:

Input voltage: 1.5-4.8 VDC
Output voltage: 5V
Output current: 4A
Pin Headers for input and output
Dual USB 2.0 ports for output (charge mobile phone, gadgets, power arduino board etc.)
Size: 1.38" x 3.94" (35mm X 100mm)

This Portable Power Supply will step up voltage of standard batteries to 5V during their full discharge cycle, and by that stable operation of every electronic device will be met.

Unlike other step up converters which efficiency tends to get drastically worse on small loads, this one will have greater efficiency in full range of input voltages and output load currents (87%-95%).

Only top notch components are used to ensure long life and stability of device.

Kit comes with 4 NiMh 2500mAh rechargeable batteries, NiMh battery charger and AA battery holder for 3 batteries. Batteries in battery holder are connected in series and that will give nominal 3.6V for input.

To increase capacity (mAhs), more of this battery packs (consisted of 3 batteries in series) can be paralleled.

It is not necessary to have batteries on input, input voltage can be from any source it just have to be in ranges from 1.5V to 4.8V

5V output isl delivered by pin headers. Also on the output there are two USB ports so that even mobile phones and similar gadgets can be charged with this useful Kit thanks to massive 4A output current.

This kit is great as supply for Arduino board, robotic projects, weather stations, radio control of portable devices etc.

Battery charger included in this kit will pay itself off after a few recharging cycles of the batteries and therefore you will save some money in the future since you will not need to buy new batteries. Provided NiMh rechargeable batteries can be recharged 500 times!

Main component of this Kit is LTC1700 Synchronous Step Up Controller 0.9 Volt to 5 Volt 10-Pin MSOP which is smd component same as N-channel and P-channel mosfets IRF7811AVPBF and IRF7204PBF respectively.

Two N-channel mosfets are paralleled in order to improve their current capability and efficiency, same is done with P-channel mosfets.

So after completing this Educational Kit not that you will just learn how DC-DC synchronous boost converter works, but you will also get versatile and quality device which can be used in numerous other projects in future.
