Overview
Initial release of my pop-up swatch box for filament swatch samples. I had been using the Customizable Filament Swatch by Makkuro, and they were starting to get a bit scattered. I ended up designing this container that serves as both a box and as a display rack/stand for the swatches. It also happens to work as a decent fidget thingie.
Sizing
Although targeting the swatches that I used, the OpenSCAD file is parameterized to allow for easy use with most any size swatches. Spot testing was done with Filament Swatch by JimTiffinJr, and all fit well. (For that swatch size, use swatch_h = 45.5, swatch_w = 102.5, swatch_thk = 2.85, and swatch_corner = 5)
Details
In progress:
Add latching mechanism for the lids.
Hanging clip for use on pegboards
Possible efforts:
Interlocking lids/bases for stacking.
Lego compatible lid and/or bottom.
Instructions
First print two copies of the mid test piece to be sure your printer's tolerances match the .STL files. If not, the clr_loose value can be tuned in OpenSCAD via the customizer. To fit two pieces together, have the backmost piece shifted up halfway in relation to the piece in front of it, set one side in place then snap the other side down into place. They should then slide freely.
Print as many mid pieces as swatches that you need to hold, unless you want to use the filled-in 'back' piece. In that case print one fewer of the mid pieces. Print one front and optionally one back for each 'box' you wish to build.
The minimal lid has been designed to hold the swatches in so that they will not fall out the top, yet still leave them visible.
Due to the spacing allowed between parts in the design not always matching the front-to-back size when assembled, the lids may be deeper than anticipated. Just print a few more mid sections to fill them up.
