The large theatre at Pompeii was built in the second century BC. It was extended and restored during the reign of Emperor Augustus and could accommodate 5000 people. New stone seating was installed in late 2009 to allow the theatre to be used as a current-day theatre. Credit to Jeffrey Jacobson of http://publicvr.org for measurements, photos and a sample model, Bob and Jackie Dunn of Pompeiiinpictures.com for photos and advice and Drew Baker of Kings College London for a height plan and advice. Note that the model has been reduced in height by about 2m to accommodate the inaccurate Google Earth terrain. Modelled by Peter Olsen, Brighton-le-Sands, Sydney, Australia. #italy #peter_olsen #pompeii #ruins #theatre
