Pipe Fitter's Trainer

This is a simple test fitting that can be printed out (cheaply made) to help new pipe fitters to get accustomed to how much minimum thread to cut and what the insertion depth is for 'tight fits'.

Then you add 1/4" to the length you have to thread/cut to allow for the adjusted depth of the training tool.

I chose 1", SCH 40 pipe which should have maximum insertion depth of 11/16".

You could cut the pipe, thread it, place the cap on, mark the line, and then attach it to the run.

While not meant to be used explicity as a fitting in a run, you could probably use it under certain circumstances. It is primarily designed as a teaching aid.
