My gardener keeps weed wacking the 'Malibu' lamps along the driveway, so I decided to print some replacements. I made these to use LED's instead of the 12v incandescent lamps the ones from HomeDepot came with.
The LED's are "superbright" white 5mm sized raw lamps purchased at 1000 pcs for $13 on ebay from some Chinese supplier. The underground wiring supplies about 8-10v (depending on how far along the line, there is some voltage drop many feet from the transformer). Each lamp has a string of 4 or 5 LED's in series. A two diode, two capacitor full wave voltage doubler supplies power, and a 7805 or lm117 regulator running in current limiter mode is places in series with the DC power to the LED's.
