OmniStand Filament Stand v1.36
PRINTER COMPATIBILITY
FlashForge Dreamer (right and left side)
Dremel 3D Idea Builder
The OmniStand is a quick connect adjustable filament spool stand for the FlashForge Dreamer and Dremel 3D Idea Builder printers. The OmniStand replaces the filament stand that comes with these 3D printers. The stand allows many different sizes of filament spools to be used on both the right and left sides of the printer (note: the Dremel 3D Idea Builder only has a single printer stand on the left side).
Optional non-quick connect OmniStand compatible stands are found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:675309. These non-quick connect single piece stands work with the same filament rods and spacers the quick connect stands work with. However, the newer redesigned type B quick connect stands are easily replaced and have less sag than the single piece designs, making them obsolete.
FILAMENT SPOOL COMPATIBILITY
Three filament rod hole positions are optimized for 3 different filament spool size categories: up to 184x65 mm (7.24x2.55"), up to 230x65mm (9.05x2.55"), and up to 190x77 mm (7.48x3.03"). For slightly wider spools see here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:667473
Using the 100 mm filament spool rod the stand was tested to fit the following filament spools inside the FlashForge Dreamer and Dremel 3D Idea Builder:
ASAPTech TPE (0.7 kg white tested)
ColorFabb (0.75 kg CopperFill tested)
Dremel (all filament tested)
ESun (0.5 kg bronze tested)
Filamex (0.5 kg spools of ABS/PLA tested)
FlashForge Dreamer (all filament tested)
Hatchbox (1 kg and 0.45 kg spools of ABS/PLA tested)
Magic Cube (0.45 kg ABS tested)
MakerBot (0.5 lbs small spool of PLA tested)
MG Chemicals (0.25 kg of PLA/ABS tested)
NinjaFlex (0.5 kg Fire color tested)
Taulman (0.45 kg of T-glase tested)
USAFilament (0.5 kg PVA tested)
Zen Toolworks (1 kg wood filament tested, others might not fit)
Filament spools tested that cannot fit inside the FlashForge Dreamer or Dremel 3D Idea Builder:
Filament Outlet (1 kg spool of HIPS tested)
Gizmo Dorks (1 kg spool of HIPS tested)
MakerBot (2 lbs large spool of PLA tested)
Octave (1 kg spool tested)
Shaxon (1 kg spool of ABS tested)
USAFilament (1 kg spool tested)
Note that these filament spools do however fit the OmniStand Top Mount Filament Spool Stand for use outside the printer.
FILAMENT STAND BASE
The base of the stand mounts directly in place of the FlashForge Dreamer or Dremel 3D Idea Builder's original filament stand. It mounts to the bottom using the original filament stand holes and screws. No additional hardware is needed.
The base of the stand has a unique sturdy quick connect design, allowing different stands to be easily exchanged without unscrewing anything. This allows different stand designs to be inserted into the stand base, without the need for screws.
FILAMENT STANDS
New to version 1.34, type B quick connect stands offer greatly increased sag reduction (See version update notes below) under heavy filament load. They are recommended over the original stand when using filament heavier than 0.5 kg. The original spool stands are now found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:675350
The quick connect stands have a sliding switch with two positions. The switch is designed to move easily, and snaps into either the locked, or unlocked position. When switched down, the switch locks the stand into the base. When switched up, the stand can be easily removed from the base by sliding it towards the center of the printer.
Two quick connect filament stands are included. One for the left side and one for the right side. Either stand can connect to any base.
Each quick connect stand has three rod holes to allow the filament rod to better accommodate different sized filament spools.
The bottom rod hole is specifically designed to fit FlashForge Dreamer and Dremel filament spools allowing them to go down into the filament depression at the bottom of the printer, maximizing clearance space in the printer. Other filament spools up to 184x65 mm should fit, but some spools might require an additional spacer for the spool's hole.
The middle rod hole is designed for filament spools that are thin enough to fit into the filament depression at the bottom of the printer, but too large to fit the standard FlashForge Dreamer and Dremel filament stand. Spools up to 230x65mm should fit, but some rolls might require an additional spacer for the spool's hole.
The top rod hole is designed for filament spools that are too fat to fit into the filament depression at the bottom of the printer. Spools up to 190x77 mm should fit (or 190x82.5 mm if using the maximum length rod found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:667473), but some spools might require an additional spacer for the spool's hole.
FILAMENT ROD SPACERS
The filament rods are 19 mm (0.74") in diameter, and made to accommodate 20 mm (0.78") filament spool holes. Some spools will fit better if a spacer is used. This set includes 6 filament rod spacers.
77x24 mm (3.03x0.94")
77x29 mm (3.03x1.14")
77x34 mm (3.03x1.33")
77x39 mm (3.03x1.53")
77x44 mm (3.03x1.73")
77x49 mm (3.03x1.92")
The filament rod spacers slip over the filament rods and expand the rods to 24 mm, 29 mm, 34 mm, 39 mm, 44 mm, and 49 mm in diameter to accommodate filament spool holes over 50 mm in diameter. The 39 mm, 44 mm, and 49 mm spacers have a 5x2 mm lip on them to keep the spool in place, so they reduce the rod's spool width capacity by 2 mm. The spacers fit the recommended 100 mm long filament rod.
FILAMENT RODS
The filament rods are compatible with the FlashForge Dreamer and Dremel 3D Idea Builder filament rods. They use the same connector design, are the same diameter, but are much longer.
The set includes 1 spool rod size.
The 100 mm long rod fits on either the left or right side. It can hold spools that are 77 mm wide. It is recommended to use this rod as the standard rod. It has a good amount of clearance from the build plate. Heavy spools of filament will not cause problems with this rod.
Additional extra long rods are found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:667473

NOTES
Note that the two FlashForge Dreamer and Dremel 3D Idea Builder filament depressions on the bottom of the printer are only 66 mm wide, and should only be used for filament spools that are 65 mm wide or less. Filament spools that are wider than 65 mm should not go into the filament depression, and should therefor use the top filament spool hole.
VERSION UPDATES:
1.36 - 3/1/2015, Updated the feet of Dreamer-Spool-Stand-B to match the improved foot design of Dreamer-Spool-Stand-B-Right.
1.35 - 2/9/2015, Moved the old quick connect stands to their own location here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:675350. Also moved the now obsolete non-quick connect single piece stands to their own location here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:675309
1.34 - 2/8/2015, Added new type B quick connect stands: Dreamer-Spool-Stand-B and Dreamer-Spool-Stand-B-Right. These improved type B quick connect stands connect to the existing OmniStand quick connect base. The new stands have an extended base that has a slight downwards slope, which helps prevent the stand from bending in towards the build plate. With these type B stands printed at 70% infill using ABS plastic, I measured a 5 mm reduction in sag at the end of the 100 mm filament rod holding a 1 kg roll of filament. It's recommended to switch to using these new quick connect stands if you are using filament heavier than 0.5 kg.
1.33 - 2/7/2015, Fixed minor issues found in the mesh for the STL files Dreamer-Spool-Stand-Single-Right, and Dreamer-Spool-Stand-Single, which could cause problems for some slicers.
1.32 - 2/4/2015, Moved the extra long filament spool rods to their own Thingiverse page found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:667473
1.31 - 1/31/2015, Modified 34, 39, 44, and 49 mm spacers to print with less plastic.
1.3 - 1/30/2015, Added Dreamer-Spool-Stand-Single-Right.stl, which is a single piece version of the standard 3 hole stand with the bend for installing on the the right side of the printer. In this version the stand base is part of the stand, making the stand slightly more study, with a loss of modularity of course. I also had to make the stand a little thinner to allow access for one of the screw holes.
1.2 - 1/29/2015, Added Dreamer-Spool-Stand-Single.stl, which is a single piece version of the standard 3 hole stand. In this version the stand base is part of the stand, making the stand slightly more study, with a loss of modularity of course.
1.1 - 1/27/2015, Added 100 mm filament spool rod and rod spacers.
