These clamps are intended to be used to support the straps for frame bags on steel frame bikes. It was designed for an Apidura Expedition frame bag, but will suit others from Ortlieb, Revelate Designs, etc.
The clamps serve the following functions:
Increase the effective diameter of the tubing to allow the straps to be used at their correct lengths
Provide better support for the frame bag at full-width and prevent it from bunching inwards
Protect the tubing from rubbing.
Prevent the straps from sliding longitudinally
The clamps suit ~32mm tubing. When printed in TPU flexible filament the clamps with be shock-absorbing and very durable.
I experimented with different methods for bolting the clamps onto the tubing, but ended up just attaching them with tape for simplicity and reducing the required diameter.
Installation instructions:
Wrap some electrical tape over the tube to protect it from abrasion and provide additional grip.
Bend the clamp over the tube and locate it in the correct position. Orientate the slot downwards.
Squish the clamp firmly onto the tube and wrap the clamp with a tight layer of electrical tape to lock it to the tube (this works surprisingly well)
Wrap the frame bag straps around the clamp and secure them.
