This is a .stl file of my entry to the NASA Regolith Advanced Surface Systems Operations Robot (RASSOR) Bucket Drum Design Challenge. It has 4 scoops in action at any given time, each with a width of 27.5mm. It has a length if 250 mm and a diameter of 450mm.
The drum uses a wall to separate the scoops, this makes it easier to avoid large blockages .only small rocks and dust will fit inside. The scoops have a pointed end that prevents rock from leaving the inside of the drum. As it rotates the dirt fills the channels which the rotation uses to carry dirt to a scoop. It is very solid and will require work to open. It is loosely attached via suction to a 45mm in diameter axle. To remove the samples NASA would use the 45 mm hole in the drum to empty it.
The drum would be 3D printed in titanium. The reason for 3D printing would be to make the drum detailed. The reason for titanium is to make it strong enough to survive scratches. 3D printing also would allow the print to be lighter by using infill of a lower density.
