This was a project made for IMINOX wich is a Mexican Institute for stainless steel. Its a very simple product with a lot of cultural background. There is this tradition in mexico of cooking some food using an ancient instrument called molcajete wich is kind of a big heavy stone smasher used by the prehispanic cultures. What we tried to do with this project was reinventing the molcajete using stainless steel, conserving most of the aesthetics and giving it a shiny look, we also wanted to make a more higienic product because of the properties of stainless steel and lastly reduce the weight of the whole product in order to be able to transport it easily and exporting. One curious thing we confronted with the judges was the fact that the culture assumes that the stone adds flavor to the food and we completely lost that property using stainless. By the way, Mully means smash in nahuatl.
