The new X821 series MSX XC8 has arrived, delivering several changes over the outgoing X820. The most notable change is the introduction of two hybrid powertrains. The 2.8L four-cylinder turbo-diesel hybrid shown here replaces the 3.2L inline 6 as the base diesel engine. Power has increased to 185kW/248hp and peak torque is up to 620Nm. The 2.8L hybrid is only available with a 10-speed auto. A 5.0L turbo-diesel V8 hybrid is available in long-wheelbase and dual-cab models. Suspension choices are the same as the X820. There is a choice of double-wishbone IFS or coil-sprung live front axle (fitted here) or leaf or coil live rear axle. With leaf springs and the 2.8L engine, the single cab XC8 has a payload of 1400kg and a towing capacity of 3800kg. The entry-level Core replaces the CX and offers full-time 4, 2+1 seating with the passenger bench seat, cloth trim, off-road traction control, 7 airbags in the front, CD player, air conditioning and all-terrain tyres.
