Update 7/19/2015Rev8 fixes a clearance problem I did not see until putting this together. This version should work now.
I already have one of these Mastergrip tools I bought from Costco years ago which I believe is the same one listed below in this amazon link. This tool weighs 18.6oz. After installing this on the Z-axis pipes, it slides nicely between the bolts.http://www.amazon.com/Mastergrip-190pc-Rotary-Tool-Accessory/dp/B005HKMASS
This upper & lower tool holder I made fits nicely around this tool with a snug fit after putting the bolt & nut on. There is a 53mm distance between the nuts on the nut trap. You could vary that distance anywhere between 25mm & 70mm, but 53mm puts it in a spot where the heat vents for the tool are not located. I have not actually put this together on the Z tower yet, but seems like it should fit unless I missed something in the design. The bottom part is 49mm ID. The top part has a different inside profile to get around parts protruding on the rotary tool.
Parts to print for this are:
1 - tool_Holder_49mmLower_rev8_repaired.stl
1 - tool_Holder_52mmUpper_rev8_repaired.stl
2 - Tool_Holder_53mmNut_Trap.stl
(The MasterGripRotaryTool.stl is a rough model of rotary tool for reference only)
Print times for these on my printer were 2:10:45 for Lower part & 01:38:40 for the Upper part.
You can also edit the included openscad files instead. If the Nut trap is the wrong size for you, you can use http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:907882 to make the size you want. Feel free to point out any problems I may not have seen in this design.
I measured the noload wattage on this rotary tool at 23watts (low speed) to 60 watts (hi speed).
