I wanted to change the factory hot end to an all metal E3D V6 style with minimal changes to the overall printer. Other designs either replace the entire effector, or are really large. This design is a direct screw in replacement for the factory Monoprice hot end, and is compatible with both the Monoprice or E3D style heat blocks. It even uses the factory fan and cooling duct. The screws used to hold the factory hot end to the effector plate are reused, and the only "special" hardware required are two #4-20 x 3/4" rolling thread screws (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GDXW3OE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) to fasten the collar around the hot end.
Since the factory heat block can be reused, all of the original wiring can be reused as well. There is an opening in the top large enough for the heating element connector to fit through, so installation is a snap.
This design has been tested and I am currently printing with it. Since none of the factory wiring is changed, this mod can be made, and reverted in case an RMA for the printer is required without affecting the warranty.
EDIT
I wasn't thrilled with the heat break cooling on some of the longer prints I made, so I decided to tweak some things. Hopefully, the new passages will force more air through the heat break, as well as put the part cooling duct closer to the nozzle.
I also countersunk the screw holes on the locking collar, so they should sit more flush.
