It's here! The world's first easily customizable, inexorably modular, supra-comestible,
mobile tool corral. And it's cheap.
A small, $12 furniture dolly is at its core. I chose 2x4 framing because it is cheap and gives me a surface to mount just about anywhere easily with cheap drywall screws. This suits my purposes and gives me a specific place to put each tool. Tools tend to clutter my workspace and then elude me when they are needed most, so I am trying to fight back with a bit of making.
I also incorporated a magnetic bar and some sturdy parts trays. A lot of the structure is re-purposed from what I had lying around. It cost me around $50 at Harbor Freight, not counting filament and tools.
The top array utilizes a quad frame of 7/8" (22.3mm OD) dowels spaced 60mm apart (from the centers.) 1/2" schedule 40 PVC will also work but is not as snug. The tool holder blocks snap in and can be screwed or riveted in place.
I also added a luggage carrier that allows the whole thing to rest at a 25 degree incline for wheeling it up a ramp.
I would be interested in doing a customizer for this concept, but I am crap at SCAD, so please message me if you are SCAD proficient and would like to collaborate. Everything is modeled in 3dsmax, using splines and booleans, so should translate pretty well. Enjoy!
