My dwelling makes me feel at home, because I know it respects the natural environment while providing user friendly functional spaces at the same time. In such a large open space as Crissy field, my house does its best to minimize its impact on the landscape by have a very narrow and compact footprint. This leaves as much as possible for green space, while at the same time crating elevated roof terraces and space for solar panels and wind turbines as far off the ground as possible. The roof either covered in high albedo materials, solar panels, or green roof, reducing the heat island effect. The advantages afforded by using Structural Insulated Panel Systems greatly reduce wasted materials and onsite labor. Also, the modules are design for easy reconfiguring of their arrangement and allow another user to custom fit their own lifestyle. The program currently offers two bedrooms, two bathrooms, an office, a loft, kitchen, dining, living room, and multiple outdoor spaces granting access from various rooms within. The centralized staircase’s secondary function is a thermal chimney, which will exhaust hot air without the use of mechanical ventilation. This reduces energy costs, and increases the passive ventilation of all rooms. This house is a showcase of sustainable design which blends well into its surroundings. #designyourdwelling2008
