This is the second of the printed competition models that I recently flew at the National Association of Rocketry's 60th annual meet, The Eggloft Altitude model I described earlier is here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3056609 The rocket in this Thing is a Payload Altitude model. It was a personal goal to determine if printed models could be competitive, opposed to conventional materials. Other than a few printed nosecones, and details used in scale models, printing has seldom been used.
This model is 100% printed in ABS. It flew twice at the contest, and both flights were perfectly straight (one in a fairly high wind). Unfortunately, due to my inexperience in working with the tiny electronic altimeters, it didn't get a recorded altitude on either flight.
The intention of the Payload event is to fly a one ounce weight to the highest possible altitude. This model is intended for 13 mm model rocket motors, which should allow it to be flown in 'A' motor class events (and 'B' class if a 13mm B motor becomes available).
Once I get the details of flying it worked out, I believe this model will be competitive in this event.
