Minuteman I Trading Card
What are feces called in Antarctica? ICBM.
Standing as a silent sentinel outside Strategic Air Command (SAC; now USSTRATCOM) Headquarters at Offutt AFB is an LGM-30 Minuteman I Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM). Looming over 53 feet tall and positioned on a same hillock, this missile is an impressive sight from the Officer’s Club parking lot.
Make your own single-print trading card featuring the sleek Minuteman I ICBM. Collect ‘em; trade ‘em; print, insert (in an envelope), and mail ‘em to any aviation fan; or, print a small missile fleet of ‘em for defending your keyboard. Consider using a salvaged paper towel roll tube core as a silo for housing your ICBM display piece.
The Model
This model has been designed to print on any 3D printer with a 6-x 6-inch build bed. If you elect to build this model, rather than collect and trade it, the recommended cement for construction is Testors Cement for Plastic Models (#3501). Maybe include a small tube of this cement with your collectible trading card when giving it to a friend?
The included decals sheet is printed and affixed to each of the three stages: from the top third stage to the bottom first stage. A glue stick can not be used for attaching the decals to the missile’s cylindrical shape. Rather, a strong wood glue, for example, Gorilla Wood Glue (Bar Code 52427 62000) is recommended for affixing the decals. The decals do not cover the exterior cable shrouds (i.e., the elongated tubes running the length of each stage).
Once all of the parts have been snipped free of the card’s framing/holding sprue, assembly is very straightforward. Begin with the four nozzle launch stage and progress up to the reentry vehicle. The scale for this model is roughly 1:71.
There is a nameplate that can be removed, painted, and displayed next to your finished missile model. Furthermore, an approximation of a USAF Missileers’ Badge is printed with the trading card. When painted silver, this badge becomes a striking image of the spirit that is embodied in every missile crew member.
Enjoy.
