A terrifying Nazi German jet fighter. The ME-262 was one of the pioneer military jet aircraft, being first designed in 1939 by legendary aircraft designer Willy Messerschmitt. Its first flight took place in 1941, but it was not fitted with jet engines until 1942. The ME-262 was powered by two Jumo turbojet engines and could reach a top speed of almost 500 miles per hour. This is a rare two seater version. While 1,430 single seat aircraft were built, only 67 two seaters were made. ME-262 pilots brought down 509 or more Allied aircraft, while only 100 jets were lost. It was armed with four 30mm MK 108 cannons in the forward fuselage nose. The Schwalbe (or 'swallow') was meant to be a weapon of mass destruction. It entered production in 1943, and by then it was too little, too late. Under a dozen survive to this day. #1941 #1942 #1943 #1944 #1945 #262 #aeroplane #air #aircraft #airplane #attack #B1a #bomber #cannon #cockpit #dogfight #fighter #fuselage #German #gun #guns #jet #ME #ME262 #Messerschmitt #Nazi #plane #rocket #Schwalbe #seater #seats #swallow #swept #terror #turbojet #two #war #weapon #wing #WWII
