Here's my attempt at re-engineering some commonly broken parts on the Yamato 1/15 scale Garland.
The shoulders are very difficult to disassemble without breaking. They are glued together, and there is a hidden screw under the front cylinder/circle thing on the shoulder. If you don't know this you will probably break off the rod that connects the front and back shoulders together.
The shoulder holds the arm up via friction, and while I can get my arms to raise to the side, the front isn't tight enough to keep the arm raised. I think this might have to do with breaking the aforementioned screws off (so it's impossible to get it tight enough)
The swing bar is the Achilles heel of this toy. Once I redesigned it, I realized that there is 1mm of material and a magnet that is supporting the entire weight of the arm. What's more, that 1mm piece of material is subject to a lot of different twists and torque that can easily break it off. So the swing bar really needs to be cast in metal, but even then, I think the design just leaves this as a very delicate area.
Still, I can at least get my Garland back into a neutral standing pose, and I can even do some limited poses. Your printer might produce better results.
If you enjoy this and found it useful, tips are appreciated, considering your alternative is a $25 print off of shapeways with no blueprint. :)
