Description:
For my own purposes I added a tube going through the lantern beams to add some cables and an LED from cheap solar lantern you can find in any gardening store.
Those can be easily disassembled. You gonna need the top portion with the small solar panel, battery and LED. Acrylic glass can be used to create a "glass" of the lantern, surrounding the LED. Then it's just a matter of taking out the LED, soldering some cables and voila.
Lantern has two small holes to put cables through. Just take note of polarity of the LED when soldering extension cables from the solar lamp's board.
To secure it to the ground you can use the stake from the solar lamp and press fit it in the bottom hole of the model.
Tree supports work great when printing the lantern with this huge overhang section. Same for the lantern.
Printed at around 430% scale (20cm tall), since we don't want it too small.
After the print is done you can just paint it with acrylic paints. Add few coats of varnish to protect the paintjob from the elements. I used varnish with satin finish, which looks makes it look very realistic.
