A cap (fr. Chape from lat. Cappa - headdress) is a traditional headdress of Russian and other national costumes. In written sources, it is mentioned from the Spiritual Letter of Ivan Kalita from 1327-1328. The upper part of the Zbruch idol, dating from about the X century, is decorated in the form of a rounded hat with a fur edge. The cap consisted of a round cone-shaped tulle with a height of about 7 apices and a round fur band with a height of about 2 apices. The top of the tulle sometimes wringed on its side. An incision was made in the circumference of the front of the cap (and sometimes in the back), which was called the gap. The hat was widespread in all walks of life, and subsequently all hats began to be called a hat.
