Mars Base
Building Materials-Carbon fiber structures insulated with Aerogel and coated with Temptrol for heat reflection. The outside of most buildings will also be covered with carbon nano tubes that powers main buildings.
Communications Array- Tunable Multi-wavelength semi-conductor laser array is used for nearly time communication to Earth.
Oxygen/Hydroponics Farm- Centrally located for optimal distribution to the rest of the base. Duct work running throughout the rest of the stricter would begin here. Semi-mature oak saplings transported from Earth would be planted here, along with pools of Spirulina(blue-green) algae for oxygen production. Algae are also an excellent nutritional source. Hydroponic farm is also located here. This along with the algae will be main source of food for base. Dome of factory would be clear to facilitate photosynthesis. Clear plastic would be multi-paneled with layers of nanites programmed to secrete liquid polymers to repair damage sustained during Martian storms.
CO2 Scrubber Storage/Medical- Three tanks to store oxygen for funneling oxygen back into air, and co2 storage to funnel into Hydroponics. CO2 scrubbers stationed throughout base will filter different gases here for storage and use in emergency situations. This is also where the medical quarantine will be housed, as it can be completely sealed off.
Mirrored Solar Panel Farm and Turbine- In the event that the nano tubes powering the buildings fails, emergency power will be a mirrored solar panel farm that heats water to create steam that then powers the turbine. This farm will also store the pre-powered generators, in cases of emergency.
Engineering/Manufacturing/Robotics/R&D- This large building will be multi-purpose, housing main engineering and manufacturing. As the people will be focused on water sourcing and food, robotics will be a key component. This is also were any ore mined once on planet will be melted and smithed. R&D will be mainly focused on alternate energy sources, comprised of hydrogen generators, cold fusion research the byproduct of which would be water for use in the rest of the base. In the interim of successful cold fusion, the ice caps will be harvested for main water source as well as waste treatment facilities.
Berthing/Dining- The top two levels of this building will be berthing, and the bottom will be the dining hall. Its design maximizes space and creates a sense of unity vital to the success of the base. This will also be main recreation/communal area
All of the buildings will be connected underground to minimize structural weakness, and each junction into the next building will be pressurized in case of emergency to maintain oxygen in the rest of the base. The buildings are also all circular or curved in some manner, as the circle is the most structurally sound shape and radiates any damage outwards to deflect impact.
