I wanted to make some magnetic vibration pads for my turntable. There are others out there, this is my take (for now).
At the current state, my Technics SL-D3 turntable sits on them perfectly with a bit over 1mm of air gap in these pads. I do know that after putting them in place, knocking on the table seems to pass less noise through to the speakers, so I think they at least do a little something.
You need 6mmx3mm magnets for this design. Also, you have to be sure the two halves are put together so that the magnets are exactly on top of each other. IF you get the alignment wrong, the two pieces will suck together rather than repelling; it's freaky. Also, you'll need to be pretty careful about putting the two halves together unless you glue the magnets in because those little suckers will jump out and try to attach to a neighboring magnet at the first hint that you're not aligned right.
I tested these on a scale and it looks like you can push down on them with nearly 4 lbs of force before they are completely compressed. I'm going to add more magnets and see where it gets me. I'm also going to try larger magnets because I want to try to put my tube amp on a set of these and that thing is heavy.
