I am a tool maker that designs and builds plastic injection and foundry molds as well as robotic tooling and general fixturing.
I always carry a six inch flexible rule (scale) with me. My shop coat even has a little pocket specially deisned for carrying one. The problem is that the scales are so sharp they cut right throught the pocket and I end up losing my scale- and since I like the Starret brand it's a loss of $20.
The plastic holders are a real pain to use since its hard to get the rule in and out.
The other issue is they will fall out of the pocket when bending over.
So this simple holder keeps the scale from falling out and is easy to slide it back in. There is an optional hole to epoxy a 3/16" Ø X 1/16" thick magnet to holdthe scale from falling out when beninding over too.
I've use it for two years now and have not lost one yet!
You aren't a real nerd until you make AND use a pocket protector!
