The M2 is a semi-automatic gas operated rifle with a detachable 5 round box magazine, however, 10, 15, and 20 round magazines are availible. Internally, the weapon is similar to the M1 Garand, with a side-protruding operating rod. However, unlike the Garand, the operating rod is not attached to the bolt. It simply rests in a recess in the bolt and pushes it. The bolt locks back after the last round has been fired. The rifle has a bayonet mount and a scope rail. The wood stock can be switched out for a polymer one. The weapon is chambered in the 8x55mm rifle round, but can also be chambered in 6x45mm depending on soldier preference. Caliber can be changed by swapping out the bolt, magazine, and barrel. The rifle has adjustable ladder sights. Maximum effective range is 1,500 yards (8x55mm) or 550 yards. (6x45mm) Field stripping is done by pressing the rear receiver button to remove the rear receiver cover. The recoil guide and bolt can then be removed. Due to its relatively fragile and complex mechanisms, the M2 has been completely phased out of UFS service and replaced by the M6 Rifle. #8x55mm #bayonet #bolt #ceremonial #detachable #garand #gas_operation #internals #m1 #magazine #operating_rod #parade #polymer #receiver #rifle #round #scope_rail #semi_automatic #service #stock #walnut
